Infringement of Woodlands Patents
24th October 2023
Earlier this year, it came to our attention that Shaya Forgings (Pty) Ltd was selling hydrant valves protected by our South African Patent 2004/02009 Entitled “Valve Closure”/
We immediately instructed our patent attorneys to send a letter of demand to Shaya Forgings demanding that it:
(i) stop selling, and/or offering for sale, the infringing hydrant valves;
(ii) provide us with a written undertaking not to infringe our patent again in the future;
(iii) hand over to us under oath for destruction all infringing products in its possession or under its control;
(iv) pay to us the damages due as a result of the patent infringement;
(v) pay our legal costs.
We are pleased to advise that, to avoid legal action, Shaya Forgings complied with the above demands and the matter has been settled.
Woodlands Engineering owns and values intellectual property, including patents and registered designs, and will enforce its intellectual property rights, where appropriate, to protect its customers from third-party infringers.

All producers and manufacturers need to follow these strict tolerances and dimensions so that our fire system and services are reliable; even years after being installed.
